Youth Sports

The City of Inglewood offers a variety of sport activities for kids 6-17.

For more information on any of the City youth sports below, please contact the Sports Office at (310) 412-5370 and ask for the appropriate sport activity.

Basketball League

Separate girls leagues and boys leagues are offered in this 16 week league that concludes with an All-City Basketball Tournament. Practices begin two weeks prior to the start of the season. All the teams are coached by volunteer coaches who teach the participants the fundamentals of basketball. Team uniforms and participation trophy are included. Team sponsors are required to help subsidize program expenses.

Girls Youth Indoor Volleyball League

Open to girls ages 12-17.

This program is held at the Rogers Park Sports Center. Everyone is encouraged to register for this program regardless of ability level. Volunteer coaches will teach the fundamentals of volleyball to their team during the 10 weeks of league play. Practices are held weekly and games are played on Saturdays This league introduces girls to the sport of volleyball and is great preparation for Junior High and/or High School volleyball teams, or to continue playing their favorite sport. Registration fee includes: 10 games, Playoffs, jersey and participation award.

Youth Flag Football

For all boys and girls ages 6-14

This exciting program gives participants an alternative to tackle football. Volunteer coaches will teach the fundamentals of flag football over this 8 week program. This league offers fun for youth ages 6-14. Registration fee includes 8-week session, playoffs, uniforms, officials, scorekeeper, and participation awards.

Youth Tennis Lessons (Novice – Intermediate - Advanced)

For youth ages 6 -17.

Tennis Lessons are offered year-round at Ed Vincent Jr. Park. Participants are taught the basic fundamentals of tennis with an emphasis on sportsmanship and etiquette. After successfully passing the Intermediate lessons and with approval from the Tennis Coordinator, participants may then move on to the Inglewood Junior Tennis League. Lessons are given Mondays and Wednesdays from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Inglewood Junior Tennis League (Advanced Youth Only)

For youth ages 8 -17.

The Inglewood Junior Tennis League is program designed to feature competition for youth at Rogers, Darby, Ashwood, and Ed Vincent Parks. This is a year round program that provides an atmosphere in which juniors can apply their tennis experience for extended growth. This program features advanced tennis techniques and provides instruction with emphasis on sportsmanship.

Amateur Youth Boxing

For youth ages 8-18.

The Inglewood Amateur Boxing Program is a year-round activity offered at Rogers Park. This program offers boxing training and exhibitions in three divisions, which fall under the Junior Olympic Boxer Level: Junior Division 10 years to 11 years; Intermediate Division – 12 years to 13 years; Senior Junior Olympic Division – 14 years to 15 years. Volunteer coaches provide training. Training schedule is Monday and Wednesday from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and Thursday and Friday 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. For more information please call (310) 330-5307.

Youth Baseball/Softball

For  youth ages 6 to 14.

The Inglewood Baseball/Softball program is a seasonal activity offered at the Sports Centers (Rogers, Darby and Ed Vincent Parks). Practices are held weekly. Games are played on Saturdays. This program offers baseball/softball training and exhibitions. Registration fee includes: hat, jersey and participation award.

Youth Track & Field

For youth ages 6 -14.

The track and field program is held at the Darby Park Sports Center. This program offers an atmosphere in which participants can gain track and field experience and provides an opportunity to compete on local and state levels. Practices are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The program provides instruction with an emphasis on sportsmanship and etiquette. Season: March-June

Self-Defense and Safety Awareness (Shorin-Ryu Karate)

For youth ages 6-17.

This program is held on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Lockhaven Community Center. Shorin-Ryu karate is an extremely conservative fighting style, Shorin-Ryu karate is a merger of Chinese kung-fu and the Okinawan punching art, Te, meaning fist. Students are instructed according to traditional Okinawan technique involving the use of hands, feet and elbow. Students will be taught to punch, block and kick with focus and power, while learning to make correct decisions under duress.
